Pony Soprano booked an appointment for Evergreen Turf Country Championships glory after a dominant display in the Fisher’s Plumbing Plus Handicap on Team Good Thanks Mystery Box Rally Raceday at Port Macquarie on Sunday.
Following strong performances at metropolitan tracks when previously in work and an outstanding winning strike rate after resuming from a spell, the flashy chestnut made light work of a strong field when scoring by just under two lengths.
Danny Peisley settled the son of Thronum ($2.25 favourite) just behind the early speed being established by Pratt ($8.50) and Introducing ($41) before making his move as the field approached the final turn.
With blistering speed, the Robert Agnew-trained gelding dashed clear down the home running before withstanding a strong burst from Kaihoko ($14) to claim an outstanding victory and cement his place in the Mid North Coast Country Championships at the track in a fortnight’s time.
Agnew has been the rising star of the training ranks after a distinguished career in the saddle and now has a two-pronged attack for the series with Pony Soprano joining Show ‘Em Howl as two real hopes to progress towards the $1 million Randwick finale on April 4th.”
